Why Buy A NewAir X Boveda Humidor?
Prior to receiving this NewAir cigar humidor, I already owned an electronic cigar cooler. However, that unit seemed more like a converted wine fridge than a unit designed specifically for cigars, so its performance left a bit to be desired.
NewAir has been selling humidors for a long time. As a result, I trust that they know how to manufacture these cooling units to best serve a cigar collection (as opposed to a small wine collection). Considering that they’ve teamed up with Boveda for this cigar cabinet, I’d say that lays a sturdy foundation for this to be a very effective cigar humidor.
If, unlike me, you rely exclusively on a desktop humidor for storing your cigars, then a cigar cabinet such as this NewAir X Boveda humidor can seem like the obvious next step. Not only does it provide significantly more space, but it also offers more reliable environmental control.
That said, it’s crucial to weigh the pros and cons of upgrading to a cigar cabinet. I suggest checking out our detailed guide on cigar cabinets to fully understand what this shift entails. After considering all factors, you’ll be better equipped to decide if the NewAir X Boveda humidor is the right upgrade for you, as it has been for me.
NewAir X Boveda Cigar Humidor Benefits
The NewAir X Boveda cigar humidor offers several standout features that cater to the needs of cigar enthusiasts, whether you’re just starting out or expanding your collection.
First of all, its 500-cigar capacity is excellent for growing collections and is sure to be enough for at least a couple of years. The humidor is spacious enough to store smaller cigar boxes, and the adjustable shelving system, which includes a large drawer at the bottom, offers flexible organization solutions. The pegs also help to segment cigars by vitola or otherwise.
That said, my cigar collection has only grown over the years, so I’m assuming that at some point, even this humidor will not be enough to store them all.
One of the standout features of this humidor is its pre-seasoned cedar shelves. NewAir evidently pre-seasons these shelves prior to shipping, eliminating the typical two-week humidor seasoning period. This means you can start using the humidor right away, making it a very convenient purchase.
Under some of the shelves, you’ll find humidity pack holders that are strategically placed to be effective yet inconspicuous, helping to maintain the ideal environment without taking up valuable space. Additionally, the internal light and glass door allow you to view your cigars without opening the door, thus maintaining a stable internal environment.
Finally, I think it’s worthwhile to mention the aesthetics and functionality. Overall, I found the NewAir X Boveda cigar humidor to have a very sleek design and to be easy to set up and use. It not only enhances the efficiency of cigar storage but also adds a touch of elegance to any room, as it did in my living room where I placed it next to my bar.
NewAir X Boveda Humidor Drawbacks
As with any product, this NewAir cigar humidor does have some disadvantages, at least that I’ve found.
One minor inconvenience I encountered upon unboxing was a dirty glass door. This was easy to clean at home with some Goo Gone, but it was an unexpected step in setting up.
Another drawback is the lack of a physical lock on the humidor door. The control panel does allow you to lock it and prevent the temperature settings from being changed, but anyone can open the door and mess around with your cigars. If you have small (and curious) ones at home, this may be something to consider.
Additionally, the humidor requires an ambient temperature of around 77 degrees Fahrenheit, which ultimately means that you have to keep it in climate-controlled environments. This could be restrictive if you were considering storage options like a garage.
Moreover, the omission of a hygrometer from the setup means you’ll have to buy one, and while you can never have too many hygrometers, this does add an additional cost.
Lastly, and this is more of a personal issue, I would have preferred if NewAir sold some sort of additional adjustable legs that would help me raise the unit to align with my bar setup. This is definitely minor, bit it can affect the overall look and be a deal-breaker for those who are meticulous about their interior decor.
Final Thoughts
Despite its drawbacks, the NewAir X Boveda humidor impressed me with its solid build quality and reliable performance. Ultimately, this makes it a standout option for those looking to enhance their cigar collection. And while it’s true that this isn’t the most budget-friendly option on the market, the investment is justified by its robust functionality and the peace of mind it offers.
Certainly, there are smaller and less expensive cigar cabinets available, but investing in a high-quality unit like the NewAir can prevent the common disappointments associated with lower-cost alternatives.
If you’re serious about your cigar collection, this humidor provides not just storage but a dependable, controlled environment that protects your cigar investment, making it more than worthwhile for those ready to take their cigar hobby to the next level.
“An excellent option if you’re looking to invest in safe and reliable sotrage for your premium cigar collection.”
