Here is a selection of recent executive hires, promotions, departures and layoffs occurring across the healthcare industry.
Hires
AmeriHealth Caritas appointed Kelly Munson as its new CEO. She most recently served as president of Aetna’s Medicaid division.
Best Buy Health named Benjamin Zaniello as its new chief medical officer. Previously, he served as chief medical officer at PointClickCare.
Bozeman Health welcomed Vasanth Balu as its new CIO. He came to the organization from Excela Health, where he also served as CEO.
Centene appointed Michael Carlson as CEO of Wellcare, its Medicare business. He has previously served as the CEO of CareAbout, Bright Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
Endeavor Health named Deb Anderson as its new CIO. Most recently, she served as CIO for the Midwest region of Advocate Health System.
Fallon Health announced that Manny Lopes will take over as CEO in the summer. He currently serves as interim CEO at Fenway Health. Previously, Lopes was executive vice president of public markets and government relations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.
Northwell Health named Kristin Myers as its first chief digital officer. Before making this move, she spent 20 years at Mount Sinai Health System, most recently serving as its chief digital and information officer.
Pendulum Therapeutics welcomed Adam Perlman to the team as chief medical officer. In the past, he has served as medical director at Mayo Clinic, as well as executive director for integrative medicine at Duke University.
Promotions
NextGen Healthcare named James Hammerschmidt as incoming CFO. He joined the company in 2017 and currently serves as senior vice president of finance and investor relations. NextGen also named Srinivas Velamoor as its new president and COO. He joined the company in 2021, most recently serving as chief growth and strategy officer.
Exits
Cedars-Sinai Health System CEO Thomas Priselac announced his retirement after 30 years in the role. He will continue to lead the health system until it completes its search for his replacement.
ChenMed CEO Chris Chen will transition into the role of executive chair of the board on February 1. Steve Nelson, the company’s president and a former UnitedHealthcare executive, is stepping into the CEO role.
Layoffs
Exelixis is cutting about 13% of its workforce, which is about 175 employees.
Incredible Health laid off an undisclosed number of workers.
Nevro is laying off 63 workers — about 5% of its workers — to balance out the cost of its acquisition of Vyrsa.
RWJBarnabas Health plans to lay off 79 workers in late March and early April. Most of the affected employees are IT workers.
SonderMind is laying off 17% of its workers, which is almost 50 people
